The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has angrily opposed the medical journal Lancet’s editorial piece on the revoking of Article 370 by the Indian government. The editorial covered how the military presence has impacted the Kashmiris' access to health and also commented on the impact on mental health, referring to the UN High Commission's comments and an independent mental health survey carried out by the independent medical humanitarian organisation Médecins Sans Frontières'/Doctors Without Borders study. However, the IMA blamed the Lancet for 'editorialising unproven issues in a science journal'.
At the time of publication of this episode, the government announced that postpaid mobile phone services will be restored. News reports suggest mobiles of officials catering to essential services have also been activated but the status of other areas remains unknown.
For this episode of The Suno India Show, Menaka Rao- a senior health reporter spoke to the ex-secretary general of IMA, Dr K K Aggarwal on why the IMA reacted to the Lancet article and why they disagree with it.
