A community radio is where people from the local community produce and broadcast their own programs and have their own radio station. In India, there are 289 community radios who through their unique programming cater to the needs of the local population. Like every other organisation, COVID-19 pandemic lockdown had affected their mobility and migrant crisis and local issues had them more on-demand. It is a community space for people to meet and collaborate, with a radius of 5-15km. The content they produce is more relevant to the local folk and also act as a networking space for the community. In this episode of The Suno India Show, we reached out to community station heads and policy makers Arti Jaiman from Gurgaon Ki Awaaz, Mukesh Mohankumar from Rathinavani 90.8 MHz in Coimbatore and Venu Arora from Ideosync Combine, to understand how the community radios are functioning during COVID-19 pandemic and the critical role they are playing.
