Suno India virtual fellowship

We are delighted to announce the Suno India virtual fellowship with support from Digital Identities. This 4-month fellowship is open to journalists reporting in English, Hindi or Telugu. This fellowship has been made possible with support from Google News Initiative's News Equity Fund for which Suno India was selected in December 2022.

You will learn how to write, report and produce for audio. Through a combination of training and one-to-one mentoring you will create a 3-part story (a total of 90 minutes) that will be released on the Suno India app. You will also be invited to a virtual networking event during which you will meet experts from the news and media industry.

Who should apply?

You are an early or mid-career journalist with 1-3 years of experience. You may be a freelancer or with a newsroom.

Your story idea must be based on one of the following three topics. There should be a strong element of field reporting in your story idea.

  • Climate Change Realities
  • LGBTQ and Housing
  • Caste and food

We strongly encourage persons that belong to communities historically under represented in newsrooms such as women, LGBTQ, disabled, dalits, adivasis and religious minorities to apply.

What does the fellowship offer?

We will appoint three fellows. Each fellow will receive:In-kind:

  • ₹100,000 honorarium
  • ₹40,000 travel budget for field reporting
  • ₹15,000 for equipment (Zoom recorder and lapel mic)*
  • ₹8,000 software license*

*The equipment and license shall be purchased by Suno India on behalf of the fellow

Training:

  • Three x 3-hour online workshops on building a pitch, using digital equipment, and voice training
  • Monthly 1-2-1 mentoring sessions
  • Production support and publishing stories on the Suno India app
